How Hearthline makes money.
What customers pay for
The Solar & Battery Quote Pack is a one-off digital purchase containing a 13-sheet decision workbook, automatic quote-gap email, final decision summary, revision and handover controls, a 15-page evidence guide and a worked example. Hearthline is also validating Project Pass, a paid online workspace for comparing multiple quotes and controlling a home-energy project. The free planner, editorial guides, calculators and first online quote check remain useful without purchase.
Payment changes available storage and workflow features only. It does not improve a score, change a planner recommendation, promote an installer or buy a favourable assessment. Quote completeness measures whether selected information is written down; it is not an engineering or installer-quality rating.
How recommendations remain independent
The planner calculates which improvements appear, their order and estimated values without reading product or partner configuration. The recommendation engine does not receive that configuration. Partner content is rendered separately only after the complete plan has been calculated. Buying, clicking or ignoring a commercial option never changes a result.
Hearthline recommends getting at least three quotes for any major installation, including quotes from companies with which it has no commercial relationship.

What changed, and when
Until 29 July 2026, Hearthline used no affiliate links. From 29 July 2026, it may show clearly labelled paid partner links after relevant planning or editorial guidance. Referral income helps fund continued free development of the planner. The independence guarantee above is unchanged and is enforced by keeping partner data outside the recommendation calculation.
No paid installer ranking
A paid relationship does not make a company the best choice for a particular home. Hearthline does not sell rankings, claim that partners are a complete market comparison or describe one partner as a panel of vetted installers. Links to MCS, Ofgem, GOV.UK and other official or educational sources remain unpaid reference links.
What Hearthline will not do
- Sell personal contact details without specific, informed consent.
- Present paid placement as independent editorial content.
- Alter a calculation to make a commercial product look better.
- Claim that an estimate or grant is guaranteed.
- Send planner answers to a partner.
Digital purchase and licence
The £19 household licence is for one household’s personal, non-commercial use. Professional or client use requires a separate licence. Hearthline sells the product directly. Stripe processes payment; Hearthline’s Cloudflare service verifies the order and provides the private file, while Resend sends the transactional delivery email.
